The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of Africa’s most famous parks. The wildlife viewing is superb throughout the year. The grassy plains and regular rainfall supports a huge population of herbivores, in turn attracting many predators.

All three big cats are relatively easy to see. The yearly wildebeest migration coming through the park is one of the world’s most amazing wildlife spectacles.

The Masai Mara lies in the Great Rift Valley, which is a fault line some 3,500 miles (5,600km) long, from Ethiopia’s Red Sea through Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and into Mozambique. Here the valley is wide and a towering escarpment can be seen in the hazy distance. Most of the game viewing activities occurs on the valley floor, but some lodges conduct walking tours outside the park boundaries in the hills of the Oloololo Escarpment.

The Mara is one of the few places on earth where wildlife still live comparatively undisturbed where you will find mass numbers that roam the plains and forests of Africa. As the northern tip of the vast Serengeti ecosystem, the Mara hosts the spectacular seasonal migration of thousands of wildebeest and zebra, with predators right on their heels trying to capitalize on a meal.

  • After breakfast, embark on a full day game drive in the reserve, with a packed lunch to enjoy during the drive. The reserve is well known for its black-manned lion and is one of the few places where you have the chance to view the “Big 5”. Cheetah is so tame, they seek shelter from the hot sun under the safari vehicles and several even climb onto the roof to get a better view of prospective prey. For the bird enthusiast, almost 500 species have been recorded.
  • In the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3

  • You will rise early for a sunrise game drive on the Masai Mara plains (During the Wildebeest Migration months, your professional safari guide will take you to key
crossing points in the Park in the hope of witnessing a spectacular wildebeest river crossing.) and
  • Return to the lodge for a full breakfast.
  • After breakfast, you will check-out and drive to Nairobi hotel.
